German Ministry for Environment awarded 18 towns and municipalities for innovative and energy efficient lighting schemes. Alltogether 180 towns entered the competition and the winners in the category of more than 500,000 inhabitants were:
- Duesseldorf
- Cologne
- Leipzig
up to 500,000 inhabitants:
- Regensburg
- Bergisch Gladbach
- Goettingen
Up to 100,000 inhabitants:
- Aalen
- Kaiserslautern
- Lippstadt
Up to 50,000 inhabitants:
- Barnstorf
- Main-Taunus-Kreis
- Geseke
The winners within 10,000 inhabitants category:
- Goldenstedt
- Baltrum
- Hartha
