An interesting project was sent to us by LichtVision. Aida Diva is one of three cruiser ships with a spectacular lighting design intertwining posh luxury with soothing leisure.

The new AIDA cruise ships are built with the goal of achieving the highest possible quality in a contemporary design optimized for the needs of both passengers and crew. The lighting concept supports this approach and adapts the atmospheric, functional and design criteria to the diversity of the public areas and themes. Almost all luminaries are dimmable and distributed on 624 dimming groups to create different day and night moods throughout the ship. In addition to the primary focus on comfort and atmosphere, the lighting design supports goals of maintainability, sustainability, energy savings and safety.

AIDA Club Ships
The AIDA cruise ships are 252m long and 32.2m wide; the ships are beautifully detailed, and includes amenities such as 7 restaurants, 11 bars, sundecks, wellness/spa,theatrium, shops, casino, fitness and kids club – spread over 13 decks.

Sundeck
The terracing of the sundeck is illuminated by linear LED-tubes giving an extraordinary impression at night while providing steplighting for safety. The indirectly illuminated sun umbrellas become light objects, providing the deck area with soft pools of light. The color changing elements (globes, pools, roof) and low bollards of the outer catwalks complete the illumination concept of this area.

Exterior Restaurant Terraces
The exterior restaurant terraces have dimmed perimeter illumination provided by low-level bollards to enhance a feeling of romance and privacy.

Theatrium Stairways
The dynamics of the elegantly elevated stairways along the vast window bays create a compelling theatrical sense of the space as one moves about and experiences different vantage points. The warm LED lighting of the stairs highlights the gold plated sidewalls and supports safety.

Rossini Restaurant
Rossini, the most up-scale restaurant, exhibits rich, glossy, wooden surfaces and is equipped with adjustable, dimmed halogen-downlights to create a warm and luxurious ambience. The downlights have a minimized frame and deep positioned ‘cool beam’ lamps. A slowly color-changing indirect luminaire illuminates the silver plated central dome and the art is accented from both sides by fluorescent sidelights with optimized color rendering.

Entrance Anytime Disco
The entrance of the disco has been designed as a blue light tunnel. The backlit floor sets the footbridge floating, surrounded by large metal arcs equipped with RGBLED-dots. The LED dots change color and brightness dynamically as visitors enter the disco.

Anytime Disco
There are virtually no visible lamps in the Anytime Disco: nearly all light is provided by backlit pillars and tables with RGB-LED-stripes, and from small RGB-LED-dots inserted in walls and ceiling. The DJ also controls the room atmosphere by callingup preprogrammed dynamic scenes dependant to the music. Each LED-dot and groups of furnitures can change color independently.

Observation Lounge
The lighting level of the forward observation lounge is subdued so as to avoid interference with the ship´s night-time navigation, and the resulting atmosphere of this space is quite sensual. The backlit wall and tables dip the room into a soft red light combined with few dimmed downlights.
