Bourbon Steak represents a mixture of coziness and sophistication. Architecture and interior design are by New York-based design firm AvroKO. Focus Lighting’s designers Paul Gregory and Kelly Hannon were responsible for the lighting design of this steakhouse in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Description from Focus Lighting follows:
_______

At Bourbon Steak in Scottsdale, AZ (just outside Phoenix), a sleek and sturdy environment was created for this one-of-a-kind desert steakhouse. Large cement columns and slated wood roof structures create a strong and modern façade, up-lit to create a grand sense of scale and drama. Additionally, up-lit cacti and other landscaped elements add to the exterior impression of the building and help distinguish it from its surrounding terrain. A backlit sign with the restaurant’s logotype also makes a subtle statement as patrons arrive.
A boardwalk, lined with up-lit and down-lit wine racks behind glass walls, greets patrons upon their initial entry to the structure. Ambient light in this area is provided by fixtures housed within the rich wooden ceiling beams. Indigenous materials such as dark, weathered wood, and cool grey stones and dry plant that are native to the region continue in the transition into this gourmet steakhouse. In the main dining rooms, three different versions of a custom solid glass fixture hang over the wooden dining tables. The lit glass fixtures are reminiscent of milks jugs or mason jars in their timeless style and solidity. The glow they put off is like that of a firefly captured in such a jar.

A finished dome acts as a “skylight” above one dining room, tricking the eye with cool bluish tones of white neon light to emulate the sky above. An adjacent dining area has an inset wooden ceiling where a cove of warm neon lights accent and highlight the natural tones of the polished wood and the angular shape of the opening. Ornamental cinderblocks create a focal wall as another interesting feature, where tea light candles are used to create depth and motion within the space. The geometric pattern with random points of light is the perfect backdrop for a dining scene, giving the perfect balance between ornament and design. Overall, the use of warm and cool white light to accent this rich environment delivers the chic and modern space which is Bourbon Steak.
