We received Public Institute for Social Studies Building in Kuwait from Kevan Shaw Lighting Design.

More detailed description of their project follows:
_____
The new Kuwait Public Institute for Social Security building is now complete and open for business. During a recent visit Kevan Shaw and Patrick Elsdale from KSLD completed the programming of the control system for the interior elements of the building. The extensive exterior LED lighting scheme was also reprogrammed to provide a new show for this year’s National Day and Liberation day celebrations.

Kevan Shaw says: “ This building is truly outstanding in the quality of the interior finishes and we are pleased that our lighting scheme has met expectations.”
The KSLD input to the interior scheme included the main transaction hall in the podium building, subsidiary transaction areas on the ground floor, the VIP entrance, conference centre, elevator lobbies, the boardroom floor, and the executive floor. The Building was designed by WZMH of Toronto, Canada and SSH of Kuwait, who provided the interior design as well as acting as executive architects.

“The interior design is strongly influenced by Kuwaiti culture as this building is where all the population will interface with the government. We brought state of the art lighting approaches and techniques to the scheme.”
Cold cathode cove lighting is used extensively both in colour and warm white and all metal halide lamps are specified as 3000K.

“In a tropical region such as Kuwait cool fluorescent and metal halide are accepted as normal. We used warm white throughout the building for all surface and vertical lighting to accentuate the richness of the materials, as you can see from the images we did introduce areas of ceiling cove in blue to provide a crispness and coolness in the spaces.”

The auditorium is lit with three colour cold cathode providing colour changing to the ceiling and wall panels. This was introduced to allow for smooth slow colour change sequences to be used for houselights, the blackout is effected by a colour sweep from the back of the auditorium to the stage helping to create a sense of drama at the beginning of presentations. Lighting controls are used extensively throughout the project with push button panels and wireless graphic tablets for the executive offices, auditorium and boardroom to allow the user to create specific scenes and change them as required for meetings and presentations.
