Lighting Design International sent us images of a project they completed recently – St. James’s Hotel and Club.

The interior was designed by Anne Maria Jagdfeld.

Lighting Design Internatilonal worked with AMJ to accentuate and highlight the materials. We uplit gold and silver leaf coffers accentuating the ceiling height and providing a warm welcoming light.

The wall lights and pendants throughout the hotel are bespoke from Dernier & Hamlyn designed to be a blend of traditional and modern. The materials of the fabric and metal elements were chosen to complement the subtle palette that has been used throughout St James’s Hotel and Club.

The bar area has been treated like a gentleman’s club with the lighting adapting to the various needs from breakfast to late night drinking. Pictures and features such as flowers and sculptures are picked out with light to draw attention to them.

White LEDs have been used to uplight the decorative tiles cladding the bar drawing out their texture. Light boxes illuminated with cold cathode create features behind the bar tying in the backlit bar front. A large prismex light box has been created above the bar that can change from the daytime yellow scene to a vibrant night time colour. Tables are spotlit to add drama at night and to visually link the bar to the restaurant.

In the restaurant the light form the pendant and uplit coffers illuminates the room as well as catching the polished metal of stunning geometric chrome hoops falling from the shades. Matching table lamps compliment the pendants and add light at a lower level.

In the corridors and powder rooms, there are crystal and chrome wall lights complimenting the main stairwell statement crystal and fabric fittings over one metre in diameter.
The basement is home to the Library, Library Annex and Salon Pommery. These areas have sophisticated lighting control that enables them to be used as one room or split up so that the individual rooms could be used by different clients.
The Park Room is also in the basement but has a light well allow a conservatory at one end. In the evening this area is illuminated by large pendants and has lit niches along one wall.

The materials are as sensuous and indulgent as the colour scheme. Marble and velvet, silk and leather, cashmere and lacquer glisten and shimmer beneath the carefully orchestrated lighting.
