It is now possible to submit an application for one of the most prominent and respected Lighting Design awards. The deadline for submissions is 17. November 2008. Lighting Design and Light Art Magazine Image    GE Edison Award 2008: Call for Entries geawards

The 2008 GE Edison Award competition is open to those lighting professionals who creatively employ significant use of GE light sources (lamps and/or LEDs) in a lighting design project completed during the 2008 calendar year (from 01 January 2008 through 31 December 2008).

The deadline for receipt of entries to the 26th annual GE Edison Award Program is 12 January 2009.

Projects scoring the highest number of points qualify to receive Awards of Excellence and Awards of Merit. The judges may also select Awards for Excellence in Environmental Design and an Award for Residential Design based on the presence of entries that encompass the exemplary and outstanding design features that support each category.

Lighting Design and Light Art Magazine Image    Zumtobel and Cree form an alliance cree

Cree and Zumtobel Group have signed a long-term strategic agreement. The products under this agreement are European versions of LR6-230V luminaires. Through this agreement Zumtobel expects to sell 50.000 LR6-230V luminaires first year. The product will be marketed solely via Thorn and Zumtobel brands of Zumtobel Group.

Lighting Design and Light Art Magazine Image    Lissone Lighting Design Award 2008 lissone

The Local Council of Lissone are promoting a new edition of the PREMIO LISSONE DESIGN
that is focused on lighting design. This award initiative follows the widely-acclaimed and very
successful first edition of the PREMIO LISSONE DESIGN, whose theme was playing design
and the children’s sector, that received 238 qualified applications from 22 countries.

The award is targeted to the generation of new product concepts with precise reference to
the lighting market, i.e. the broad range of innovative applications in interior design, furniture
accessories and outdoor lighting equipment. The main goal of the award is to bridge the gap
between young designers and furniture manufacturers, lighting equipment makers, interior
decorators and city planners. The broader aim of the event is to involve the local
manufacturing industry and market makers, in their role as supporters for research and
innovation. Considerable emphasis is given to the implementation of new lighting
technologies and innovative lighting energy sources.

Lighting Design and Light Art Magazine Image    Power Plant in Liverpool powerplant

Liverpool that already boasts one of the most succesful Urban Lighting Design schemes that was part of Liverpool Vision programme hosts another Lighting and Sound Installation called Power Plant. Here is the information from the organisers:

‘Deep in the Victorian Gardens, as dusk falls, old gramophones spin glittering sounds whilst clicking insects cast vast moving shadows. A nocturnal sensory trail where haunting whistles rise and fall, luminous balloons breathe gentle sighs. A glasshouse shudders, and sparkling flowerbeds dance to their own tune…’

The event will take place in Calderstones Park from 8-12 October 2008
